Shin Conditioning by barbajoe

It doesn't get easier, you get stronger
Sylvie has quite a few posts about this topic, but the most important thing is to know what not to do ; for example, don't hit your shins with sticks, it's counter productive. Secondary to that, much like any type of exercise, there will be some amount of pain involved when you're pushing your limit. But you get stronger, and you learn to love it. Just like running, lifting, climbing, and so on.
The next most important thing is to know that, in a fight, you will not feel pain in your shin. I cannot tell you why this is, but it's 100% true. But oh-BOY will you feel it the next day! With or without shin pads, if you checked a hard kick, or had a strong kick of yours checked, you'll feel it the next few days/weeks. And that's good. The pain is proof that you pushed yourself hard. If you have no pain after a fight, then you either fought someone way too far below your level, or you weren't pushing yourself.
Now get out there and push yourself!
